Ørsted Makes Headway on New Jersey Offshore Wind Farm
Offshore wind developer Ørsted’s push into the geotechnical site investigation stage with London-based Aqualis Offshore for Ocean Wind demonstrates significant progress for the project.
The developer purchased the rights for the site from RES America two years ago. The site has about 160,000 acres of ocean area and a potential installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
New Jersey has struggled to launch its offshore wind industry under the Christie Administration, but some say the state could make significant progress if the current Democratic candidate wins the upcoming gubernatorial race on Nov. 7.
Gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy has proposed a strong plan for the state’s offshore wind industry, which includes a potential offshore wind target of 3,500 MW by 2030.
